Himachal

1. Kasol – Kheerganga

  • Located in Paravati valley, Kasol it is considered the abode of Shiva.  It is famous for its hot springs and scenic views. The Parvati River flows here and on its banks are tiny houses beckoning you from afar. The trek begins from Kasol at 5000 ft. altitude and ends in Kheerganga at an altitude of 9600 ft.

    Food is another magnet pulling travellers to the cafes here known for serving delectable Israeli cuisines.

2. Manali Trip

3. Rishikesh Adventures

  • White River rafting on river Ganga

There are about 14 iii and iv grade rapids in Rishikesh.  Both amateurs and experts can try these for the adrenaline rush.  There are 3 different routes based on your level of expertise. 

  1. The shortest route with level 1 and 2 rapids starts from Rishikesh to Bhramapuri. It is about 9 kms long. This can be attempted by beginners
  2. The 16 kms route from Risikesh to Shivpuri is also preferred by many.
  • The longest is the 25 kms route which has rapids of grade 3 and above and is more thrilling than the other two trips. This route ends in Marine Drive
  • Flying Fox

Flying fox is another adventure you can enjoy in Rishikesh.  Here you will be drifting a distance of one kilometer at a speed of 160 kmph. The trainers will instruct and suspend you by a harness and let you drift the about 7m above a rushing river

You are pushed to one end by gravity and will be pulled back through a retrieval mechanism.  Three people can fly at the same time. 

  • Rappelling

Have you ever tried rappelling?

Check this adventure sport constructed in the woods of Riskhikesh. It involves trekking to the drop point and then climbing down a 25 feet with a 3 waterfalls cascading down along with you.

Descending a near vertical surface, balancing between massive rocks with the water gushing from the Neergarh waterfall could thrill you no end.

The surreal views that great you while descending will encourage you to face the tough challenge and achieve success.

  • Bunge jumping

Bunge jumping at  Mohan Chatti is another crowd puller in Rishikesh. 

A setting within the Shivaliks, a high fixed cantilever platform at 83 metres cries out to you to “Dare a Jump” from the top strapped with an harness.  You get rewarded for your attempt not only with the adrenaline rush but also with a certificate and badge. 

The experts are there always there to brief you about how to make a successful jump with safety gear and precautions.

Air – Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun is the nearest airport

Train – Haridwar junction is the nearest railway station

Bus – Rishikesh is connected to major cities and towns such as New Delhi, Dehradun, Haridwar through a fleet of buses that are both comfortable and affordable.

4. Prashar Lake

This beautiful lake is located in Himachal Pradesh, some 49 kms from Mandi at an altitude 2730m above sea level

This 8 kms long lake spot is accessible by car.

PARASHAR LAKE TREK

Amidst the beautiful blue Prashar Lake, are lush greenery and a 3 storied temple on the banks

There is a picnic spot at the top.  Enjoy the views of snow-capped mountains and the Sutlej River once there.

This land is filled with Mythological tales of Sage Prashara who meditated here and who has a temple built in his honor. 

Another tale relates that that this lake was created by the mighty Bheema who moved a mountain to create a lake for the sake of a minor God.

Best time to visit is all months except winters between December and March

How to reach

Air – Nearest is the Delhi airport

Train – Chandigarh railway station

Road – This place is 430 kms from Delhi.  Take a bus going to Manali. Get down at Mandi and take a local bus from there to Prashar.

5. Jibhi-Jalori Pass

It is located in n Banjar Valley, Himachal Pradesh.

Listen to the sweet bird voices on trees lining the banks gurgling Tirthan a tributary of Beas River at Jibhi.

Also called Backpacker’s paradise this pass is a great trekking place for beginners. Adequate Home stays and hotels are available here anytime of the year. The Chhoie waterfalls is just 30 minutes away from Jibhi.

The Jalori Pass is 30 min away from Jibhi.  Visit this place when it is snowing. But park your car at 2 kms away from Jalori Pass as it may become difficult navigating the narrow and slippery path in snow.

Atop the pass, you can enjoy the grandest views of the other Himalayan peaks.  Serolsar lake is another place to visit nearby.  But it is better to visit this place when the snow is less.

Train – Shimla station is the nearest railhead

Road – It is 497 kms from Delhi if you travel without taking breaks

If you are choosing a Bus, take the Delhi to Manali bus, get down at Aut Tunnel and take a private taxi or bus to this place.

6. Tirthan Valley - Himachal

This is the site of Serloskar Lake which involves a 5 km trek from Jalori pass. You can visit a temple devoted to Budhi nagin during the trek.

7. Shangarh - Senj Valley - Himachal Pradesh

Shangarh – Sainj is located at 1233m above sea level.  An offbeat location therefore you can enjoy nature in solitude.

Some places to see here are Shangarh Meadow, Pundrik Rishi Lake, Bharshangarh waterfall.  

A weekend trip can be designed as follows

  • Start for Shangarh from Delhi.
  • Sightseeing in Shangarh on day one.
  • Sightseeing Bharshangarh and visiting the Bharshangarh waterfall on day two.
  • Visiting Pundrik Rishi Lake on day three and returning back to Delhi the same day.

8. Bir - Billing

Bir is a village in Himachal’s Joginder Nagar valley.  It is also called Paragliding capital of India. Billing is the place where the gilders take off and they land in Bir village. Some top things you can do in Bir Billing are

  • Visit Buddhist monasteries and Stupas
  • Stay in a Luxury Machaan tent for one night and trek to the nearby forests filled with Oak, Devdara and Blue pine trees.
  • enjoy grand views of the Dhouladhar mount ranges and sunset point in the valley
  • A visit to Tibetian colony to taste yummy food and shop for souvenir

How To reach

Air – Gaggal airport is 68 kms from Bir Billing. It has frequent flights to the city of Delhi.

Train – Baijnath is the nearest railway line about 12.7 kms away.  Baijnath is linked to major cities like Pathankot, Palampur and Kangra.

Road – Bir Billing is connected to various important cities like Gaggal – 68 kms, Shimal – 200 kms, Chandigarh – 280 kms, Dharmashala – 50 kms and Manali – 180 kms 

9. Mussoorie

It is located in Uttaranchal and is more popular than other sites in the Himalayas.  Here is why people throng to Mussorie year after year…

  1. Kalsi is 58 kms from Mussoorie. It is a meeting place of rivers Yamuna and Tons Camping and hiking possible here

Prominent places here are: Ashokan rock Vikasnagar, Dak Pathar, Katta Pathar.

  1. Dhanaulti

It is situated some 2286 metres above sea level.

Prominent places to visit are: Dashavatar temple, Kanatal adventure camp, Deogarph fort, eco park, Chanderi town

  • Chamba

Chamba is full of conifer forests of pine and deodar, rhodendrons, Apricot and apple trees,

Prominent places to visit here are: Tehri dam and reservoir and Kunjapuri temple

10. Nainital – Uttaranchal

Nainital is a popular hill station in the state of Uttaranchal.  It lies at an altitude of 2,084 wrapped by flowering blooms, fresh air and a lovely climate attracting millions of travellers every year.

It is the place of Naini lake which is sometimes called the queen of lakes.  The place offers a calm and serenity that is not found elsewhere. The lake is surrounded by seven hills that add to the lakes’ allure.

Other landmarks of Nainital you should not miss are Nainital Zoo, The Mall Road for see shopping, Eco Cave garden, Tiffin top (Dorthy’s seat), Hanumangarhi, Snow view point, Naina Devi temple and Aerial Ropeway for some fun.

Air – The nearest Airport is at Pantnagar about 55 kms from Nainital

Train – Kathagodam Railway station is the nearest railhead and at 35 kms away

Road – There are plenty of buses and taxis connecting Kathgodam and Nainital.
