7 reasons why you should start trekking as a Teenager only

Teenage years are the hardest, both for you and your parents alike. While you experience physical, hormonal and emotional changes you may also feel anxious, isolated and struggle to cope up with the environment.

Few parents may feel they are unable to discipline your lot.  Basically, they may not understand what you are going through.

Others parents understand you but feel they lack skills to support you all.

However, both of you will realize that this is the stage for learning certain skills to ultimately become an amazing adult. Trekking is one activity that could introduce you to the world of adults in a perfect way. Here are 7 reasons why you should start trekking as a Teenager

1. Love for adventure

As a child you surely were adventurous.  Were you not curious to look into a birds nest or climb big trees?

As a teenager you now possess a physique too to climb any mountain or cross every river!  

There is also the adrenaline rush which could take you to great heights such as the Himalayan peaks! 

Experts feel kids above age 10 are ready to start trekking. Why don’t you give it a try?

2. The earlier you start the more you explore

You learn on the job during trekking! 

Rough terrain, high altitudes and weather vagaries may be a cause for concern. But with the experience and high fitness levels you will overcome difficulties, gaining immense experience in the process.

Starting early will keep you active for more number of years.  You thus have enough time to mark off all the trekking challenges there is across the world.  People starting late may not have this advantage.

3. School trips to improves team spirit

Trekking with schoolmates will do you a world of good. 

During these trips a special bond develops between you and your friends.  The feeling of camaraderie ensures everybody cooperate and support each other on the way to the top.

7. Perfect Trekking plans for teenagers

There are of course some treks that are perfect for Teenagers…

1. Hampta pass 

It lies at an altitude of 14,107 feet above sea level in the passage between Lahaul and Kullu valleys.  Though this trek tests your survival skills, it rewards you with immense satisfaction of achieving a big milestone.

 

2. Triund trek

This trek does not take more than 2 days. You could probably perform it on your own if you have some climbing experience. 

 

So, if your favorite hobby is bird watching or photography, just pack your bags the coming weekend and set off in the direction of Triund.

 

3. Prashar Lake

Prashar valley is located in Dhauladhar range and can be reached through thick forests revealing glimpses of snow clad mountains in the background. 

 

Sleep under the twinkling stars and wake up to a gorgeous sunrise at the campsite.  An added sensory enticement is the lake that is cobalt blue in color. 

 

3. Nag Tibba

This peak lies at 3022 meters above the sea level.  You can attempt it over a weekend.  This 16kms trek offers grand views of Kedernath peak, Gangotri peak, Bandarpoonch peak on the way to the top.   

 

4. Dayara Bugyal trek

Dayara Bugyal is a 6 day trek which will take you 11830 feet above the sea level.  Attempt this trek in summer after April when snow has melted and the soft grassy meadow with cute and colorful flowers makes beautiful visuals.

 

5. Kedarkantha

The altitude of this trek is 3800 meters.  The base camp is at Sour village, which is blessed with beautiful environs of snow covered peaks and sparkling rivers. 

One can enjoy yummy food in the villages along the way to the summit. 

 

6. Kauri Pass trek

Pass through lovely forests and meadows to reach the Kauri Pass. 

 

One of the most famous peaks in the Himalayas, Nanda Devi can be visible on this trail. Also enjoy grand views of NeelKanth, Chaukhamba, Hathi Goda and Drongiri during the journey to the top.
